Being a stay at home mom has a lot of benefits. But anyone who has ever tried this lifestyle knows that it may be challenging to maintain your sanity when staying at home all day long with your little ones. Fortunately, there is a tool that can help a lot to handle the difficulties that come with it, and this is a stay at home mom schedule.

Below, I will share with you why you may need a god routine and how you can design your own stay at home mom schedule. As a (half) stay at home home, this has been a life saver for me! Because I LOVE my daughter- but sometimes she drives me crazy ha 🙂

Are you ready? Then let’s get started.

The benefits of having a stay at home mom schedule

Creating a successful daily schedule has many benefits for stay at home moms.

First of all, a schedule can increase your productivity. This is because moms have so many things to do that they often forget something or they can’t find time for some household chores and activities. When you have a schedule, planning goes more easily and you will feel less “stretched” in a million directions. You will know the routine of your kids or babies: when they should get up, when is their nap time, when you should pick up the older kids from school, etc. Between these fixed activities, you can do some chores or you can schedule some time for self-care (or even work from home like me!). You will see that you can get things done more effectively when you follow a well-worked-out stay at home mom schedule.

Secondly, you will have a list of what you accomplished during the day. This may seem like a trivial thing but it is not. Just think about those days when you feel that the entire day just passed by and you couldn’t get anything done. These are the days when you should look at your schedule, and I guarantee you that you will feel much better after going through how many things you achieved in a single day. Be proud of every day that you keep those little ones alive! 🙂

Another benefit of creating a schedule for yourself is that it will help keep you sane and feel better. The days won’t feel so long anymore and seeing that you should only do the laundry before you have 30 minutes of relaxation in your schedule can feel great.

Now that you know what kind of advantages scheduling can bring to you, you may be wondering how you can create your schedule. In general, the process is not so difficult (you need only a pen, a piece of paper and some good ideas) but you need to consider some factors when designing your schedule. Therefore, I will give you a few tips on scheduling to make it easier for you.

Make sleep top priority

The first thing that you should take into account is sleep. When designing your schedule, sleep should always be a priority, and it is something non-negotiable.

This is because both you and the kids need enough sleep to function properly. Moms who are experiencing sleep deprivation may get angry more easily and find it hard to focus. Also, when it comes to the kids, adequate sleep is necessary for child development and proper body functions.

You can prioritize sleep and feel less fatigued by setting times for sleeping (including bedtime routine, nighttime sleep, and additional nap times for your kids). This way you can ensure that everyone in your family will get adequate sleep that will give enough energy for the next day.

Wake up earlier than the kids

Regardless of whether you are a mompreneur who is working in addition to caring for the kids or you are a “regular” stay at home mom, you may take some advantage of waking up earlier than the kids.

Early mornings can be super productive if you have a well-working morning routine. Get up before the kids do (1-2 hours earlier can be optimal), drink your coffee or smoothie, read or meditate for 15 minutes and get right into work. For example, do some chores (it goes more quickly when the children don’t not disrupt you every 2 minutes), or if you are a blogger, start to make a quick research and write an article.

Once your kids wake up, you will already have a few things done on your to-do list. You will see that it’s a great feeling when you start the day being productive! For me, I notice that it sets the tone for my whole day to feel more organized and put together for sure 🙂

So if you want to be more efficient, focus on starting your day right.

Must-dos first

When you are putting together your schedule, always write down the must-dos first (prioritize!). It depends on your lifestyle what your necessities are but it should include time, for example, for mealtimes, school drop off and pick up, nap times, bedtime, some household chores etc.

Then, if you have all these fixed activities in your calendar, you can fill in the times between and add some extras (me-time, exercise, less urgent chores etc.). You can only do so many things in a day mama- and it’s important to realize this for your sanity!

Find some time for yourself

I think one of the most important things is to leave some time for yourself in your schedule. I know we moms always feel that everything is about the kids but if you would like to keep your sanity, you need some me-time.

You may want to try some of the hobbies for stay at home moms, practice self-care, take an afternoon nap to recharge, read a book or drink a coffee.

Believe me, these activities can be so beneficial. You won’t regret adding them to your daily routine.

Create some habits

Create some habits that can help you get things done more effectively throughout the day.

For example, for keeping the house clean and tidy, you can develop these habits:

  • After waking up everyone makes the bed.
  • You empty the dishwasher every morning.
  • Toddlers arrange their toys after play time.
  • After the kids go to sleep, you sweep the floor every evening.

For being more productive, create a morning routine (what you do before the kids wake up), a bedtime routine (including bath and bedtime stories), and mealtime routines (who sets the table, who fills the dishwasher, etc.).

Be consistent

If you want to have an effective stay at home mom schedule, you need to be consistent as much as you can. Make sure to schedule wake ups, bedtime, meals, and naps at the same time each day (within reason and allowing for some flexibility of course- because, kids). This way you can stick to your plan more easily and the kids will also get used to it.

Find out what works out for you the best

mom

Since all moms are different and most families don’t lead the same lifestyle, there is no universal schedule that works for everyone. You need to find out what works out for you and your family the best. From day to day you can make some changes in your daily routine so you can find balance and be more productive without going crazy. It is worth the extra effort!
