I used to think working online was just for computer geeks

I once thought that making money online sounded like a fairy tale dream.  Then I got pregnant and realized just how badly I wanted to be able to stay at home with my baby as much as possible.

So I jumped headfirst into figuring out what skills I could bring to the online world as a side hustle- with the goal of making it a full time gig at some point.

I literally had no idea where to start because I’ve always been a “think inside the box” type when its comes to work-ha. But I found some really inspiring mom blogs to help me get started…

Now I work when my daughter is napping or down for the night so that I can spend the rest of the day with her (most of the time)- it’s perfect!

I’m here today to to tell you that you can do it too mama- like for real!!!

If you’re feeling unsure and want some major inspiration, here were my favorite mama resources:

The Free Mama Movement– all about how to work from home using your skills as a freelancer (the possibilities are endless). Lauren was literally the catalyst in my career when she asked why I didn’t look into medical writing since I am a Physical Therapist by trade.

Start a mom blog– this is a very flexible way to start working from home if income isn’t your top priority (rather a creative outlet that can build with time).

Here are 6 side hustles that you can literally start today

Check out the following five online side hustles that are easy to start. These stress-free ways to make money on the side are ideal for everyone, but especially for stay-at-home parents who would love to bring in some cash to use for bills and other expenses.

1. Create Gigs on Fiverr

Do you have something you can offer to other people? You may have social media marketing talents, love to write blog articles, design templates, or web design capabilities. If you are good at something, turn it into a profit by offering services on freelance platforms like Fiverr. You can create an account and then put your own “gigs” together. Although the name of the site is Fiverr, you can charge much more than that for the services provided based on your skill set and what you are planning to do for the customer.

When creating a gig, you need to name it and provide a description of it to let people know what you can do for them. After you create the gig, you can upload a photo or video to go along with it that describes your services in detail. You can list add-on products and increase the price based on what people might want to add.

For example, you can offer to write a short blog post for $5, but then increase the price based on the number of words the customer wants. If a customer wants a long blog post, you may increase the price to something that is much more reasonable for you. Thousands of people are having success on Fiverr, and it is not too late for you to do the same.

2. Alternative: Build a Profile on Upwork

Upwork is very similar to Fiverr. It’s all about preferences and your specialty. I love Upwork and my husband swears by Fiverr. 🙂

You will build your profile and note your experience and specialties. Make sure to list important details like your hourly rate and any potential references. Then, you can seek out companies looking for freelancers with your skill set.  As you build your profile and gain references, you will probably have contractors reach out to you as well!

I started my freelance career on Upwork 2.5 years ago. I decided I wanted to take my medical background as a physical therapist and see if I could use it for something I enjoy: writing. Turns out there’s a whole niche for it! I now have several regular writing clients that pay me well for my writing.  Plus, it’s turned into other great opportunities like creating videos for health communities, helping build exercise apps, and more!

3. Sell Neat Creations on Etsy

Are you a crafty person? Do you make different things in your spare time? If you like to make certain items for friends and family, why not try making items for people who will buy them from you on Etsy?

You might want to create custom t-shirts if you have a t-shirt press or a Cricut. If you do not like making t-shirts, you might want to create paintings, custom buttons, magnets, or jewelry.

The best thing about Etsy is that you can upload photos of your creations, set a price that you think is right, and wait for the sales to start rolling in. While there is some competition, having unique products can get you quite far on Etsy.

4. Buy and Resell Products on eBay

There is a chance that you can do exceptionally well on eBay by purchasing items and reselling them for more on the website. Not sure how to do this? Start by visiting local thrift stores or discount stores to see what you can find.

You can use apps and search engines to find out the value of some of the items you are finding in these thrift stores to see if they are worth buying and then reselling. Many people make a great deal of money doing this for a living.

Along with thrift store hunting to find items you can resell at higher prices, you can also visit big box stores and check out their clearance items. Wal-Mart, Target, and other popular stores often put items in the clearance section that will sell for much more when listed on eBay.

While you are initially investing a few dollars to buy the products, you will get a much larger return on that investment after selling the items at an ideal price.

This is a great option for someone that likes to bargain hunt (and who doesn’t, really? ha).  Other options are hitting garage sales and online deals on Facebook Marketplace of Craigslist.  If you’re aren’t having luck on Ebay, other great options include Poshmark for women’s clothing or Mercari for any item.

I personally use Mercari when I’m cleaning out my closest and love making a few extra bucks!

5. Become a Freelance Writer

Do you enjoy writing? If you can do it well, you may want to use your writing talent to make some quick cash on the side. It is a great side hustle for those who can write well and understand how to write good web content. While it is possible to write for private clients, those who are looking for something simple and flexible to do on the side can join one of several content mills in existence.

One of the most popular content mills is Textbroker.com. Signing up for an account is simple. You must provide proof of who you are when signing up by uploading a photo of your valid identification card. You can complete a sample to receive a rating. Ratings vary from 2-5 stars. The goal is to receive a high rating to have access to more content that you can write. You can choose to accept one piece at a time. Upon completing the first article, you may then move on to a second one. For a full review of TextBroker- look here

Many freelancers enjoy Textbroker because of the work available and the flexibility involved. You will get paid weekly through Payoneer, so make sure to create your free Payoneer account and connect it to your Textbroker account to get paid for any work you might do.

Remember, other options include Upwork, Fivver, or individually reaching out to clients that are looking for writers.  For a list of examples, look here

6. Become an Influencer

If you have a growing following on different social media platforms, you can use it to your advantage to make money online on the side. Continue to work on organically gaining more followers and then try to get deals from different companies that are willing to pay influencers for product shoutouts and reviews.

Along with receiving paid sponsorships simply because you have a large following, you can use your following to your advantage by creating a YouTube channel. If you have a large number of subscribers and are posting original content on your YouTube channel, you can monetize videos and get paid monthly from all the views.
